“The City as Written by the City” is a low tech approach to mapping and is an alternative way of  looking at, and thinking about, place and location and how we move through our environments. To be acquainted with and to understand and discover our surrounding environment, the stroll is the best technology.  For the past four years I have been using walking in my art practice accompanied by a hand held pendulum mapping/drawing device, which I designed and constructed.  This device captures one's movements in graphite on a piece of paper.  The resulting image I consider to be a type of map.

「The City as Written by the City」はローテクノロジーな地図作製法であり、自分の居る場所とそこでの足跡を見つめ直すための一手段である。自分を取り囲む世界を良く知り、理解するのに最も適したテクノロジーは散策である。過去四年間に渡り、私は自分の芸術活動に、自ら開発し製造した手持ち式の振り子地図作製／作図装置と歩行を取り入れている。この装置をは、使用者の動きを黒鉛によって用紙上に記録することが出来る。最終的に浮かび上がった画像を私はある種の地図だと考えている。
